Bringing the Holiday Spirit to Neighbors in Need

The Four Counties Garden Club

Greens, cones, decorations and ribbons bring great joy to neighbors going through difficult times. For the past eight years, the Four Counties Garden Club (FCGC) has partnered with Tredyffrin & Easttown Care (T & E Care) to kick off the holiday season, making and distributing festive wreaths in the community.

With glue-guns and fresh greens in hand, FCGC meets in early December to create 50 holiday wreaths. T & E Care, located in suburban Philadelphia, distributes the wreaths to families facing significant challenges who live in nearby communities. T&E Care supports a network of people, providing an array of services, including helping with a rent payment or utility bills, furnishing an apartment, help finding jobs, getting medical care, supplying clothes or toys to a family, shopping for food, or getting a computer for a family.

The Four Counties Garden Club President Amanda (Mandy) Swope Joos says, “It is important to note that some of our own neighbors struggle financially. The old adage ‘charity begins at home’ is especially meaningful at the holidays. T&E Care was established for that very reason, and Four Counties is delighted to spend time sending holiday cheer to less fortunate families in its own community.”

Year-round community involvement is a hallmark of all member clubs of The Garden Club of America. Since 1922, Four Counties Garden Club has worked to improve and protect the quality of the environment through programs of education and community service. Other community projects over the years include Physic Garden at Pennsylvania Hospital, Kearsley Retirement Community, Meals on Wheels, St. James School bulb planting, and the Stonehurst Hills Elementary School’s Children’s Reading Garden.
