The Katharine M. Grosscup
Scholarships in Horticulture
FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS AND ADVANCED UNDERGRADUATES
Purpose: To encourage the study of horticulture and related fields.
History: The Katharine M. Grosscup Scholarship Fund was established in 1981 by Mrs. John Berdan, a member of the Garden Club of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It is in honor of her friend, Katharine MacConnell Grosscup, a talented gardener and enthusiastic conservationist who shared her knowledge with family, friends, and garden clubs.
Provisions: Provides several students annually with financial assistance of up to $3500 each.
Eligibility: Open to college juniors, seniors, or graduate students in horticulture or a related field, with preference given to students from Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Michigan, Kentucky, and Indiana.
To Apply: See Katharine M. Grosscup Scholarship information and application. Applications are accepted by mail only and must be received by January 11 preceding the year of study.
Selection: From its inception until 1990, students were sought, screened, interviewed and chosen by a committee of members of the Garden Club of Cleveland and the Shaker Lakes Garden Club who consulted with the GCA Horticulture Committee. Currently, selection is by the Grosscup Scholarship Committee and is approved by the GCA Scholarship Committee.
Fund: The Katharine M. Grosscup Fund is managed by the GCA.
