The GCA Joins Seed Your Future Initiative

November 08, 2016

The Garden Club of America has signed on to an exciting new initiative called Seed Your Future, www.seedyourfuture.org, to build a pipeline of environmental leaders and promote rewarding careers for young people in the green industry.  The GCA is a member of the Advisory Council which includes representatives from Longwood Gardens and other eminent organizations in the horticultural and educational fields. Seed Your Future is calling for more horticulturists who can “fill tables with food that is safe and nutritious, preserve native habitats and lessen the impact of climate change, imagine a landscape for homes, towns and businesses” -- and much more. It will develop a horticultural/plant science-based curriculum available at no cost for all 7th, 8th, 9th & 10th grade teachers in North America, in collaboration with Scholastic Magazine.

Since its founding, the GCA has been on the front lines when it comes to promoting talent in fields related to its purpose. The Seed Your Future Campaign offers a new venue for GCA to spread the word about its 27 merit-based scholarships, awarded to more than 90 students annually, with grants in excess of $350,000. The GCA’s scholarship program (see all scholarships here) offers exciting educational opportunities for aspiring horticulturists, urban designers, climate scientists, entomologists, plant pathologists, and educators.
