  2013 Laura Ackerman
Field of study: Is on the faculty of Minneapolis Community and Technical College. She will use her funds for an apprenticeship in ecological Horticulture at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her goal is to teach courses in sustainable food production techniques through extension programs, community organizations or college academic programs.
    2013 Katherine Jumper
School: College of the Atlantic
Field of study: Will complete her study on the diversity and heavy metal content of mushrooms found on different geologic settings or quarries on the Deer Isles of Maine.
    2013 Keith Lukowski
School: North Carolina State University
Field of study: He plans to visit a garden with an internship program in every state. He will interview and film present interns and internship coordinators, and then place the information on a web page for potential interns and public garden administrators.
  2013 Joseph Poythress
School: University of Georgia
Field of study: He will be doing research on conserving native plants, including rare plant protection and reintroduction, and will work on improving the propagation protocols for milkweeds.
  2013 John Taylor
School: University of Illinois
Field of study: His research is on home food gardens in urban areas, specifically Chicago. He intends to return to teaching at a university and to focus on local food systems and sustainable horticulture.
    2013 Seana Walsh
School: University of Hawaii
Field of study: She will continue her studies of the plant, commonly called Cabbage on a stick and also known as Alula, (Brighamia insignis). Her career goal is to earn a Ph.D. and to work in natural resource management with the National Tropical Botanical Garden.
  2012 Amanda L. Meder
School: University of Nebraska
Field of study: A 2008 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a BS in Environmental Studies, is pursuing a Masters in Horticulture. She is studying sustainable landscape horticulture through the study of native plants in storm water best management practices and greywater irrigation settings.
  2012 Elizabeth Denise Riley
School: North Carolina State University
Field of study: A summa cum laude graduate of North Carolina State University in 2009, earned a Master of Science degree in 2011, and is now a Ph.D. candidate in Horticultural Science at NC State. She intends to teach at a university or community college level in a horticulture- based program.
    2012 Hallie Victoria Schmidt
School: California Polytechnic State University
Field of study: A junior at California Polytechnic State University who anticipates graduating in June 2013 with a degree in Public Horticulture. Her goal is to be a program or educational director at an arboretum or botanic garden or a garden manager of an historic site.
    2011 Stephanie Stuber
School: SUNY College of Environmental Science & Foresty
Field of study: "Masters of Professional Studies in Public Garden Leadership candidate at Cornell University, will study mosses at the Coastal Maine Botanic Gardens."
  2011 Theresa Chormanski
School: Miami Dade College
Field of study: "Theresa Ann Chormanski, a faculty member of Miami Dade College, will pursue her Ph.D. in Plant Medicine at the University of Florida"
