Marie Aull Nature Trail at Wegerzyn Gardens Metropark - Garden Club of Dayton

It is the restoration of the Marie Aull Trail that we hope to accomplish with this grant. GCA funds would be used to cut up and remove pockets of the fallen trees that line about one third of the mile long Marie Aull Trail at Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark. The Memorial Day tornado tracked through the northern portion of the trail, leveling the majority of the trees. In order to undergo desired reforestation efforts, we will need to remove a large amount of the debris. Community outreach has funded the purchase and or growth of native trees to replace the ones lost but funds are not available to actually clear the debris so the trees can be planted.

The proposed project focuses on native trees to be replaced on a devastated nature trail. Trees include Shumard and Red Oak, Buckeye, Hazelnut, PawPaw, Shagbark and Butternut Hickories and Redbud.

As our region’s conservation agency, Five Rivers MetroParks (FRMP) has a specific long-term role to play in efforts to recover from the tornadoes, which is restoring lost habitat and providing respite for our community.
