Andrew Jackson Downing Memorial Park (Downing Park)

The Garden Club of Orange and Dutchess Counties are in the process of restoring and replanting various trees and plants in Downing Park. In 2018, a tornado whipped through the park severely damaging the trees, plants, and ancillary structures. This was the last park designed by celebrated landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and the project will help mark the celebration of his 200th birthday. They will be collaborating with the Downing Park Planning Commission and other local organizations and leaders.
In the next few months, the club’s goals are to bring students from the local school districts to take part in the project through programming and planting. The club is currently in the planning stages for the project and In the spring they will focus on planting.
