Green Visions

Allyn's Creek Garden Club collaborating with Green Visions

Green Visions, is a Rochester, New York based workforce development program, serving at-risk youth in the neighborhood in which they live. Green Visions is planning to renovate a 100-year-old home they recently acquired at 188 Whitney Street. The home sits in the midst of the one-acre plot that serves as Green Visions’ urban flower farm in the JOSANA neighborhood, a low income, and underserved area of Rochester. The renovation of 188 Whitney Street will provide a home base for the Green Visions program in the neighborhood they serve and will allow them to pursue expanding the program to one that operates year-round.

Allyn’s Creek Garden Club (ACGC) will be working with the program participants in the classroom, offering instruction in a variety of areas relating to horticulture, floral design and conservation. Each spring, Green Visions interns install and cultivate cut flower beds on once vacant and decaying city lots.

Since its founding in 2013, Green Visions has provided part-time, paid, workforce experience that includes job certifications and career development training for approximately 15 at-risk, unemployed, and out-of-school youth ages 17-24 each year. Upon completion of the program, participants are prepared for employment opportunities in industries ranging from agriculture and food processing, to manufacturing and business services, which have been identified as growing sectors of the regional economy.
