The Beaumont Botanical Gardens, inc. is Beaumont's open-air museum of living trees and plants set in 23 acres of gardens and woodlands. The Botanical Gardens are at the confluence of several ecological systems and birding flyways, and are situated at the edge of Cattail Marsh, a public wetlands ecological park. The BBG also operates the Warren Loose Conservatory along with the Garden Center venue, a beautiful facility that is utilized for educational events, meetings, receptions and reunions, including school tours where children are educated on the importance of the local flora and the purpose of a botanical garden.
In the Winter of 2022, the Beaumont area endured an unusual days-long deep freeze which killed many plants in the Botanical Gardens. Then, a second natural disaster further decimated the flora, the record-breaking drought and heat wave in the Summer of 2023. In addition to these weather disasters, the gardens have also been ravaged by feral hogs.
With a Restoration Initiative grant, the Beaumont Botanical Gardens will be replanted with hardier native species, and these will be nurtured with love and organic materials. After the restoration work is completed, the BBG Board plans to educate our community about which trees, shrubs and plants survive and flourish in more extreme weather conditions.
