Early Street Community Garden in Morristown, New Jersey
Garden Club of Somerset Hills & Garden Club of Morristown
The Garden Club of Somerset Hills and The Garden Club of Morristown join together in support of Grow it Green Morristown to create community-building opportunities at the Early Street Community Garden in Morristown, NJ. The 3-year plan would allow The Garden Club of Somerset Hills & Garden Club of Morristown to work with Grow It Green Morristown to develop vital green spaces that offer a welcome and necessary respite. The project includes the creation of a meadow of native pollinators, selecting plants that provide sensory enhancement of ADA accessible pathways to the rear gathering area, and creating educational spaces surrounded by beautiful plantings, including a proposed yoga/class platform and space for community activities.
The Early Street Community Garden, formerly a junkyard, provides the only green space for several blocks. The Early Street Community Garden comprises many thoughtfully planned areas including garden plots, permaculture, pollinator gardens, community spaces, an apiary, education spaces, and sustainable features such as an existing solar pavilion and rain gardens, all of which beautifully encompass key aspects of the GCA mission. The GCA’s Common Ground Collaborative Grant monies would see this gem of a space become fully realized as envisioned by its founders, where people can be enriched by the wonders of nature and opportunity.
