Birds Feeding Neighbors

The Greenwich Audubon Center (GAC), in Greenwich, CT’s mission is to protect birds and their habitat on the 868 acres the GAC owns and manages, and holds open to the public. Hortulus will partner with the GAC to design, build and maintain a community garden with native pollinator plants and organic vegetables. The program, “Birds Feeding Neighbors,” plans to feed local birds and cultivate and share an abundance of fresh, locally grown organic produce. The GAC’s community garden aims to promote healthy eating and combat food insecurity within the town of Greenwich, CT.
One in eight residents, and one in six children in Greenwich, CT are experiencing food insecurity. This represents a 34% increase in children struggling with food insecurity since 2021. The program will involve community members in all aspects of the garden program, from planting and harvesting to distribution and education while fostering a sense of ownership and shared responsibility. The garden's purpose is to grow more than just food: it's about growing community, health, and hope.
