Butterfly Effect Project

Westhampton Garden Club

The Westhampton Garden Club is partnering with The Butterfly Effect Project (BEP) to rebuild their Intergenerational Community Garden at the organization’s new campus — the Daniel & Henry P. Tuthill Farm, a town landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Riverhead, NY. By rebuilding the community garden founded during COVID, BEP will continue its farming legacy by growing healthy and nutritious food in the new location.

The Butterfly Effect Project is a youth empowerment program that serves 700 economically disadvantaged youth annually with a mission to "create safe spaces for girls (and now boys) to succeed."  The grant will go to prepare the ground, install a deer fence, irrigation, purchase plants, gardening supplies and landscaping materials.  The club will help source plants, offer educational workshops on native and pollinator plants, provide hands-on gardening support, and partner on community initiatives and events.  The goal is to make the garden bigger, better, and a more inclusive learning and community space for BEP participants, families, and neighbors.
