BLISS Meadows

St. George's Garden Club

This project will create a community garden at BLISS Meadows, a 10-acre land reclamation project in Northeast Baltimore City, MD, an area considered a food desert.  Founded in 2017 on an abandoned urban development site, BLISS (Baltimore Living in Sustained Simplicity) operates a market garden, a summer camp, an orchard, raises chickens and has established an apiary. The market garden grows 20,000 pounds of produce all of which is sold, shared, or consumed. BLISS has brought the benefits of fresh produce to the area with nutritional education and food preparation workshops.

The addition of a community garden at BLISS Meadows is a logical next step and will bring neighbors together to cultivate a shared green space. The St. George’s Garden Club will support the installation of fourteen raised beds and help maintain six native pollinator gardens totaling 3,000 square feet. This community garden will be available to all the neighbors to cultivate their own fresh produce and so they can share tips on growing and preparing healthy food.
