The Firehouse Project - City of Hartford
Connecticut Valley Garden Club, Zone II
04/01/2025
Hartford, CT has ten firehouses, five of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as having architectural and historical significance. The city itself does not have the funds (and has not for many years) to landscape, replace dead or diseased plants or to improve the curb appeal of the firehouses. Firehouses are homes for the firefighters who live in them during their multi-day shifts. We believe no city of size has the funds for this type of beautification and a public-private partnership is the only way cities can create beauty. CVGC has completed planting of seven firehouses and the 2025-2026 plan includes the remaining three firehouses and replanting where needed the completed firehouses.
