Shrewsbury Riverfront Park Native Plant Garden

Rumson Garden Club, Zone IV

04/01/2025

On what is a barren one-acre plot next to a bridge crossing the brackish Shrewsbury River from Sea Bright to Rumson, RGC plans to install a native plant garden to help filter run-off from storms. This is crucial as Sea Bright was "ground-zero" for Superstorm Sandy and is prone to flooding. Using native species, the garden's impact would be environmental—for birds and beneficial bugs--as well highly visible, providing a green gateway to inland Rumson. This garden will be instructive on dealing with environmental challenges of drought, wind, and stormwater. Only .1 miles from a middle school, the garden could serve as an outdoor classroom.
