Gills Creek Watershed Habitat Restoration
The Palmetto Garden Club of South Carolina, Zone VIII
04/01/2025
The Palmetto Garden Club of SC members will periodically aid in the removal of invasive species and plant native plants along riparian buffers and floodplains in the Gills Creek watershed. The Gills Creek watershed covers about 47,000 acres in the South Carolina midlands including Columbia and Richland County and empties into the Congaree River. More than half of that area is developed and urban and needs restoration of native plants and monitoring. We will also participate in the propagation and planting of native plants.
We members are committed to multiple years of engagement. We have already done a Weed Wrangle with the GCWA in October 2024, and GCWA is committed to the ongoing efforts and maintenance needed for restoring habitat within a developed setting.
