Waterloo Park Hill Country Garden
The Hill Country Garden Club, Zone IX
04/01/2025
When complete, the Waterloo Greenway will be a 1.5 mile long, 35-acre linear park winding along Waller Creek in downtown Austin. This extraordinary greenspace is being reclaimed from a formerly channelized and flood-prone creek bed and is supported by City of Austin (57%), philanthropic support (38%) and Federal Government (4%). It is being launched in phases, with amazing free events and programs already taking place. Multiple garden spaces are filled with native plants that provide valuable habitat for birds and insects; plants that provide shade and cooling; and gathering spaces for people of all ages. Waterloo Greenway operates under an MOU with the City of Austin which owns the land. Waterloo Park, where HCGC members have been working in the Hill Country Garden, is 11 acres and is 95% native plants.
