Sharon Hood

Recipient of the Elizabeth Abernathy Hull Award, 2025

Nominated by a member of Halten Garden Club, Inc.

Sharon Hood co-founded and currently directs "Roots Farm," a ten-acre working farm on the McDonogh School campus. For 25 years, she has engaged students in agriculture, environmentalism, and healthy eating through this innovative program. Sharon's hands-on approach allows young people to experience the complete cycle of food production while learning sustainable farming practices. Under her guidance, students develop understanding of environmental systems, resource management, and the importance of responsible agricultural methods. The Roots Farm Program connects classroom learning with practical applications, making abstract ecological concepts tangible through direct experience. Sharon's dedicated leadership has influenced generations of students, fostering environmental stewardship values that extend beyond the farm to inform lifelong conservation practices.
