Charles is Senior Conservation Zoologist for the Wildlife Conservation Society (formerly the New York Zoological Society). A researcher of wildlife in Amazon rain forests since 1975, Charles is now the world's foremost authority on wild macaws. He has been a leader in creating 12 million acres of protected areas in the Peru-Bolivia border region, and in creating ecotourism sites in the Manu and Tambopata Rain Forests of Peru. Selected by Time Magazine in December 1994 as one of 50 Leaders of the Future, and as a Young Leader of the World, Charles has published over 30 scientific papers. Member since 1996.
