Garden designer and joint owner of Piedmont Carolina Nursery. Instrumental in raising the funds to build an education center in honor of Dr. J.C. Raulston at the arboretum named in his memory at North Carolina State University. For over 25 years, Chip has enthusiastically restored and re-created grounds for historic buildings, including the Roper House in Charleston, SC, the Richmond Hill Inn in Asheville, NC and 78 Main Street in Nantucket, MA. His gardens have been published in dozens of gardening and architectural magazines. Chip is on the GCA Speakers List. In 2021, Chip was named to the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper for my 42 years of service on the boards of the public gardens and arboreta of my home state, including the Botanical Garden of North Caroline, the JC Raulston Arboretum at NC State University, the Sarah B. Duke Garden, Reynolda House of American Art and the Paul J. Ciener Botanical garden at the US Botanical Garden Foundation. Member since 2005.
