An exceptionally well educated and respected leader who has created one of the nation's finest institutions at the North Carolina Arboretum where he is the Executive Director. A registered landscape architect, he has served as President of the American Public Gardens Association and orchestrated the first World Botanic Gardens Congress in 2000. He has served in leadership and on boards for many local, state and national organizations. Always interested in the environment, he is an author, an educator and has an impressive record of volunteer positions. In April 2006, he received the prestigious NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Environmental Hero Award which honors those who volunteer their time and energy to help NOAA carry out its mission to protect our nation's environment. The North Carolina arboretum now hosts over 500,000 visitors annually, has been a significance in the growth of the natural products and landscape economic sectors in North Carolina, and is the site of the only full figure sculpture of Frederick Law Olmsted. Member since 2006.
