Hitomi Gilliam, a resident of Bowen Island, British Columbia is widely acclaimed as one of the most innovative contemporary floral designers in the field. She is a member of the American Institute of Floral Designers and is the recipient of their prestigious Design Influence Award. She is a gifted teacher and in addition to giving demonstrations and workshops at most of the GCA Major Flower Shows, she has gone virtual with workshops and lecture/demo in the past year reaching students world-wide via www.elementsofinspiration.com, www.floristicdialog.com, and
www.designingforexcellence.com . Her designs are characterized by a respect for nature and a love of architecture and art. She is the co-author of several books including Fundamental Theories of Design, Design Compendium, Earth Man and Spirit and more recently A Fresh Look at Judging Floral Design. In 2006 she received the American Horticulture Society Frances Jones Poetker Award for achievement in floral design.
