A botanist, educator, scholar, administrator, researcher, author, and advisor are some of Jim's many talents. He is known for his energy, creativity, vision and can-do attitude. Jim retired in December 2020 as director of the Huntington Gardens in San Marino CA, a position he held since 1987. During his tenure, Jim instigated many new public programs as well as managed, trained, and planned for future growth of the gardens. He has published both professional and popular articles in national publications and was on the Board of the American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta. Jim is an advisor to the GCA Horticulture Committee. He has been a member since 1999.
