A retired professor of horticulture at the University of Georgia, Mike is an expert on woody plants. He has written over 300 articles and 12 books which are considered the most authoritative texts in the field of woody landscape plants. He has introduced over 64 new cultivars into the nursery trade and owns 13 patents. As one person wrote,"he is a living legend in the horticultural world... he makes it fun and meaningful." His achievements have been recognized with the highest teaching and gardening awards, including the prestigious Medal of Honor from The Garden Club of America.
