Michele Byers, proposed by Zone IV, is passionately dedicated to preserving New Jersey's lands and water resources. She is currently the Executive Director of the New Jersey Conservation Foundation (NJCF). Her work with NJCF began in 1982 and in 1995 she was asked to move into the top position. Through the years she has made a significant impact on the state's Farmland Preservation Program and Camden City's Cooper River Greenway. Landmark environmental laws were passed with NJCF guidance including the Freshwater Wetlands Protection Act and the Pinelands and Highlands regional planning acts. Michele has fostered partnerships to strengthen and expand the reach of land conservation efforts. She is called upon to share her expertise in planning and legislative strategies. Several of her positions have been gubernatorial appointments. In 2006 she was recognized with a GCA Zone IV Conservation Commendation. Honorary member since 2020.
