Susan Cohen FASLA is a landscape architect, author and educator, and the founding Coordinator of the New York Botanical Garden's famed Landscape Design Portfolios Lecture Series, which began in 1998. Each year, this acclaimed program brings three of the world's prominent landscape architects to New York City to talk about their work and their design philosophies. She is alsothe coordinator of the NYBG Landscape Design Certificate Program and has been an instructor there since 1981. Ms. Cohen received her B.A. in English from Smith College and her professional degree from the City College of New York. She practices landscape architecture in Riverside, Connecticut. While she specializes in residential design, her practice also includes corporate and institutional landscapes. She has designed two major exhibition gardens for the NYBG: a Japanese Autumn Garden, and a setting for sculptures from New York City's Museum of Modern Art. In 2010, she was elected to the Council of Fellows of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) for her outstanding contribution to the profession over a sustained period of time. Her book, The Inspired Landscape: Twenty-One Leading Landscape Architects Explore the Creative Process, highlights the work of international designers and was published by Timber Press in 2015. Among her volunteer commitments, Ms. Cohen has served on the Greenwich Architectural Review Committee, the NYBG's Board of Advisors, and the Board of Trustees of Smith College, where, along with several other alumnae, she helped create an innovativeLandscape Studies Program. Susan Cohen was proposed by The Garden Club of East Hampton, seconded by Green Fingers Garden Club.
