Professor Emeritus, John Hopkins University, Director Emeritus of Environmental Studies, Airlie, a USA citizen since 1962, Bill has two medical degrees (London) and a D.Phil. (Oxford). Research scientist, explorer, filmmaker and polar bird expert, especially penguins, swans and geese, he's an amateur botanist having made British Museum and Smithsonian collections. An enthusiastic supporter of organic and sustainable agriculture, he promotes habitat restoration that encourages regional native flora and fauna. He pioneered techniques in capture, circumpolar marking, radio-telemetry and teaching waterfowl migration routes with ultra light aircraft, spawning the movie "Fly Away Home." With over 120 scientific papers, his TV films have been shown worldwide. Awards include the Polar Medal from Queen Elizabeth II and 1991 Explorers Medal (Explorers Club, NY). Member since 2002.
