Thanks to Rachael Bonoan, 2017 recipient of the GCA Centennial Pollinator Fellowship, Tufts University is on its way to qualifying for a BEE CAMPUS USA certification. Rachael and her team were awarded funding this month to create a 500 square meter pollinator habitat on Tuft’s campus. Other campus-wide pollinator friendly plantings, pollinator gardening workshops, and planting guides are also in the works.
A certified Bee Campus must develop a campus habitat plan, host events and workshops, sponsor service learning projects, educate the campus and broader community, and report annually for recertification.
Once certified, Tufts will be able to join over 50 Bee Campuses nationwide in setting an important conservation standard. What a bee-autiful development! Is there a campus near you that could consider Bee Campus USA? Find out more by visiting www.beecityusa.org.
