Garden Club of America Members Strive to Educate, Engage, and Enrich through Community Flower Shows

April 23, 2019

Learn something new at a flower show in your area

Garden Club of America flower shows are unique educational forums. Showcasing a community’s distinct horticultural specimens, traditional and forward-thinking floral designs, and creative arts including botanical jewelry, encourages spectators to seek and embrace nature’s beauty.

Latest garden trends, photography tips, and advice on planting window boxes and raised beds are topics often covered at GCA flower shows across the country.

Sometimes, flower shows will include special exhibits and opportunities for youngsters, to engage with nature as well as exhibits on conservation. “Each community’s needs are unique,” says GCA national Flower Show Committee chairman Crissy Cherry, “Disseminating information is prioritized at GCA flower shows, whether it is information on floral design or organic and sustainable gardening, steps to maintaining a healthy yard, or best practices for choosing native plants that are appropriate to one’s community.”

In 2019, GCA flower shows, always free and open to the public, will span the country. From “Hill Harbors and Horizons” in Boston to “Root 66” in Missouri and “Harvest Time” in New Hampshire, GCA members will educate and engage communities. Flower shows allow club members to uphold the GCA’s purpose of stimulating the knowledge and love of gardening and restoring, improving, and protecting the quality of the environment through educational programs.
