GCA Photography Shows
The Power to Transform
August 01, 2019
The Garden Club of America shares the knowledge and love of gardening and the natural landscape through flower shows across the country. GCA shows feature photography, floral art, botanical art, local horticulture and conservation. “Photography helps us better see the natural world around us. It has the power to transform our observation into appreciation, respect and conservation action, which is so much of what the GCA is all about,” says Lynn Shiverick, GCA Photography Committee Chairman. Photography displays at flower shows give the visitor insight and inspiration into the art and science of photography at all skill levels.

Photography is an art form that has the ability to engage the viewer to wonder. There are many examples of photography in a GCA show: landscape, close-up, still life, creative techniques, slow motion, and black & white to name a few. Viewers can explore which images move them to learn more about the world they live in.

Landscape images can be very dramatic and can create a certain mood. This image was taken with an iPhone on an early morning walk.

Creative images can be seen with just a splash of color.

Close-up images can capture unique details or perspectives. Many times viewers have never noticed the tiny details in a flower or the small creatures that can be found in their own backyards.
Photography is a powerful tool that can be used to tell a story, share a moment, and spread information.
