In early June, a group of new members from the Stonington Garden Club (SGC) gathered at the Quiambaug Fire and Rescue Department in Mystic, CT to plant a new garden surrounding the Quiambaug Fire Company sign and memorial dedicated to all members of the fire department past, present, and future. The garden followed a red, white, and blue theme and included Blue Star Juniper, Montauk Daisies, white iris, red verbena, blue salvia, and an Endless Summer Hydrangea Bloomstruck. SGC members brought plants from their own gardens, plus purchased plants to fill in the bed. In the fall, the members will plant red, white and dark purple tulips, in keeping with the color theme. The new garden is the perfect way to thank the fire department for their continued support during the club’s triennial Gardens by the Sea tour, which will be held June 10-11, 2022.
For almost 100 years, SGC has had a lasting impact in its community and a legacy of giving. Organizations that have received funding include Naturescapes – a 3rd grade school field trip program serving every child in the Stonington Elementary School system, scholarships for high school seniors, and donations to local conservation projects such as Coogan Farm.
