GCA and Music Industry Volunteers Make Beautiful Weed Wrangle Music Together
GCA and BMI Volunteers Work Together to Remove Invasive Plants in Parks Nationwide
October 18, 2023
On September 20, 2023, Weed Wrangle ©, a Partners for Plants initiative created by The Garden Club of Nashville in 2014, collaborated with Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI) to launch a simultaneous, nationwide civic gardening event with hundreds of volunteers. GCA participants came from clubs in Los Angeles, Austin, Nashville, Atlanta, and New York … including the GCA staff! At every location park staff educated volunteers about the importance of planting with natives and the need to identify and remove non-native invasive plants. The weather was perfect, and everyone had fun!
Individuals from virtually every BMI department put on gloves, picked up tools, and worked together in an extensive effort to clear out invasive vegetation from eighteen different parks to revitalize and steward these lush, green areas. They cleared out invasive vegetation from the parks’ nature trails, cleaned up unwanted debris, and helped restore the natural beauty of these public spaces.
“At BMI, we recognize that personal action drives change, and by taking our entire company on this venture, we can only imagine the impact we will have at these parks,” said Mike O’Neil, CEO of BMI. “We are excited to have this time to not only give back to our communities but also have this moment as a team building opportunity.”
The day was a huge success, and the Weed Wrangle team looks forward to another opportunity to Rock and Wrangle On!
