GCA in the City – a new and exciting opportunity for participation in The Garden Club of America–officially debuted in NYC on October 24th with a sold-out event celebrating the magic of mushrooms! Speaker John Michelotti, mycologist and founder of Catskill Fungi, shared the fascinating connection between fungi and the important role they play in the health of the ecosystem while also sharing some delicious possibilities for dinner. Michelotti’s knowledge and humor inspired the audience to learn more about the natural world of fungi.

The GCA in the City program consists of a series of educational evening events with both a social and civic offering. At our October event, fifty-four civic minded young people signed up to indicate their interest in working in the Elizabeth Street Community Garden in Nolita!

This new model of engagement is designed to accommodate busy young people in urban centers by offering fun, educational, and affordable events held in the evening. Ticket prices average $45, bar included. All events also include a short introduction to the GCA.

The smiling crowd of attendees ranged in age from the mid-twenties to mid-forties. As you can see in the accompanying photos, GCA in the City captured the hearts of the young professional demographic.
