Club provides greens displays for historic Pruyn House

In a festive celebration of community and history, the 100-years-strong Fort Orange Garden Club (FOGC) demonstrated its longevity with a remarkable Holiday Greens Show at the historic Pruyn House on December 8th and 9th. This seasonal event showcased the club’s century-long dedication to gardening excellence and community engagement.. FOGC, a proud member of The Garden Club of America, filled the Verdoy Schoolhouse with a vibrant display of holiday greens, inviting visitors to celebrate in the spirit of the season. The club’s commitment to community shone through with a modest entry fee on Friday that benefited the club’s newly established scholarship fund in honor of their Centennial year. Free admission on Saturday ensured accessibility for all.

The Pruyn House, decorated in an elegant 1880s style by the Blue Creek Garden Club and Friends of Pruyn House, opened its doors to the public, offering a glimpse into its rich history. Visitors enjoyed the holiday decorations, savored cookies and hot chocolate and even had a chance to see Santa and Mrs. Claus.

FOGC’s involvement in this event was more than a celebration, it was a testament to their century-long journey in enhancing community spaces through gardening. Since 1988, their work at the Pruyn House gardens has been instrumental to the community’s garden preservation.

This event not only honored the Fort Orange Garden Club’s century of gardening heritage, but also fostered community bonds, bringing together families and friends in a joyful, shared experience of holiday magic and the beauty of nature.
