Confessions of the “Flower Show Junkie”

The Emotional Rush When Flowers and Design Prowess Merge

I’m addicted to flower shows!

I travel around the country photographing floral designs and post them on my Instagram account @flowershowjunkie. I like to think it’s a healthy obsession and many of my fellow flower show addicts agree.  I love seeing creativity at work as the entrants construct original designs out of thin air.

My addiction began innocently: As a new garden club member, I was required to enter a floral design in the upcoming flower show.  Having never shown any artistic talent I was intimidated.  After attending two workshops and practicing for months, I won first place.  From that point,…I was hooked!

GCA flower shows are open to the public and incorporate judged floral design, botanical arts, horticultural, photography entries, and include an educational exhibit.  So enjoy the beauty and creativity of the floral design and botanical arts entries and observe new techniques and engineering.  If horticulture is your passion, you’ll enjoy outstanding specimens from local gardens.  And don’t miss the photography entries where technical and artistic skills merge.
