The GCA Receives Rachel Carson Women In Conservation Award

The GCA honored by the National Audubon Society for national conservation efforts

On May 16, 2019, The Garden Club of America received the coveted Rachel Carson Women in Conservation Award from the National Audubon Society.

The GCA was lauded as “one of the largest and most powerful organizations of women in conservation… in the United States.” GCA President, Dede Petri accepted the award and thanked “the many hundreds of committed GCA members who made this award possible.” Watch the video and the acceptance speech of GCA President Dede Petri.

 

 


Allison Whipple Rockefeller, founder of Audubon Women in Conservation, and Anne Thompson, chief environmental affairs correspondent, NBC News, bestowed awards on both the GCA and Rose Harvey, former commissioner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.   
 
More than 300 individuals gathered for the special event. In addition to the award presentation, Audubon showcased honorees with videos produced by Katina Productions about their work. Diane Lewis, member of the Bedford Garden Club, lauded the GCA and its efforts. So too, did Rep. Earl Blumenauer and Fred Rich, lawyer, environmentalist, and author of Getting to Green.
