New National Scenic Byways and All-American Roads

For the first time since 2009, thirty four new National Scenic Byways and All-American Roads have been announced by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The Garden Club of America is proud to collaborate with Scenic America and friends to revitalize the National Scenic Byways Program.

The new designees – ranging from Maine's Katahdin Woods and Waters Scenic Byway to California's Historic Route 66 Needles to Barstow Scenic Byway – traverse twenty eight states, bringing the total of America's Byways® to 184 in forty eight states. For a complete list of new designees visit New Scenic Byways Designations.

“The designation of these new All-American Roads and National Scenic Byways is a victory for organizations that share Scenic America’s commitment to preserving and protecting our nation’s most beautiful roadways and fueling economic development through tourism,” said Mark Falzone, president of Scenic America. “We are grateful to The Garden Club of America for their leadership and partnership in this effort which was instrumental in making today’s historic announcement possible.”

Established in 1991, the National Scenic Byways Program recognizes roadways with notable scenic, historic, cultural, natural, recreational, and archaeological qualities. Scenic America, a national environmental nonprofit that preserves and enhances the visual character and scenic beauty of America, led the charge to revitalize and restore funding for the program.
