The Garden Club of America has awarded over $300,000 for the 2021-2022 year recognizing sixty one scholars to support a variety of academic endeavors ranging from summer environmental study and field work, to graduate level research. Their study will take place in institutions across the nation and some will conduct field work across the globe.
The scholarships cover study in the fields of botany, coastal wetlands, ecological restoration, desert studies, national parks conservation, garden history and design, landscape architecture, conservation horticulture, horticulture, native plant studies, pollinator research, environmental studies, and urban forestry. Since 1928 when the first GCA scholarship, the Rome Prize Fellowship in Landscape Architecture was established, the GCA has funded more than 1,400 scholars. The GCA offers twenty eight merit-based scholarships in twelve areas.
