Orinda Garden Club Creates Holiday Wreaths for Their Community

December 19, 2022

Collaboration with the Boys Scouts of America brings holiday cheer

On the first Saturday in December, residents of the charming northern California town of Orinda eagerly await Wreaths Around Orinda - a symbolic and festive start to the holiday season. Thanks to the Orinda Garden Club (OGC), this year once again their city was decked with fresh wreaths festooned with bright bows and glittered cones.

Each year, dozens of wreaths are purchased from the local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America and, just like that, the magic unfolds! OGC “elves” get right to work adorning the greens in anticipation of the “first Saturday” when the garden club ladies, together with spouses, and assisted by the Boy Scouts, hang the wreaths throughout the town. The festive collaboration wraps up with hot chocolate, coffee, and donuts for all!

Over 10 years ago, ladies of the OGC put the idea for Wreaths Around Orinda into action. In 2021 the OGC received a citation from the City in recognition of this holiday beautification project which has had a profound and uplifting effect on Orinda residents, especially during the CoviWas years.

An average of 60 wreaths are hung each season and occasionally garlands and lighted trees are included in the décor. The Orinda community has embraced Wreaths Around Orinda as a cherished annual tradition.
