The Senate is set to take action this week on a broad public lands package, headlined by permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund. This bill, S. 47, is the culmination of a years-long effort by bipartisan champions and stakeholders around the country, including the GCA, and is more urgent than ever. LWCF expired four months ago, which means that revenues from oil and gas leases which should be deposited in LWCF are being withheld. So far $300 million has not been added to LWCF, as intended by the 1965 law creating the fund.

This is a very real opportunity to permanently authorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The senators who need to be thanked and recognized for their past support of LWCF are Senators Cory Gardner (R-CO), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Susan Collins (R-ME), Steve Daines (R-MT), Richard Burr (R-NC), and Lamar Alexander (R-TN). If you are from those states, please give them special acknowledgment.
