Purpose

To support students' field studies and offer an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience beyond the regular course of study.

Level of Education

For undergraduate and graduate students. 

Eligibility

Open to undergraduate and master’s degree students. Research must be conducted in the Western Hemisphere. Eligibility is open to U.S. Citizens and permanent residents who are currently and actively enrolled in a U.S. - based institution. Due to IRS restrictions, GCA is unable to fund awards for international applicants.

Provisions

Provides $3500 annually to support students' outdoor summer field studies.

Selection

Members of the GCA Scholarship Committee and professionals knowledgeable in field botany will select awardees.

History

In the late 1990s, to help offset this trend of declining or consolidated botany programs at colleges and universities the GCA's Scholarship Committee added a proposal for a summer scholarship in field botany to its list of possible new offerings. Beginning in 2000, Mrs. Henry Streeter, an ardent horticulturist and member of the North Shore Garden Club of Massachusetts, generously offered to fund this opportunity.
