Strategic Pruning Limits Rose Rosette Virus Spread in Invasive Rosa multiflora
This project tests whether targeted pruning can remove localized Rose Rosette Virus infections before they become systemic, using invasive Rosa multiflora as a model host. By experimentally removing symptomatic canes at increasing distances below infection sites, it aims to identify a pruning threshold that prevents disease progression in individual plants. While continued disease spread in invasive populations is beneficial for reducing their abundance, the results will inform strategies to contain the virus and protect high-value ornamental roses from infection.
