Mussel Power: Landscape Architecture Strategies for Native Freshwater Mussel Conservation in Central Indiana
Abby’s capstone project will explore how landscape architecture strategies can support conservation efforts and raise public awareness for native freshwater mussels in central Indiana. She will use ecological design principles to reduce sedimentation, pollution, and habitat fragmentation in Indiana’s White River. Outdoor recreation opportunities and riparian corridor enhancements will be designed along the river with public engagement integrations. Abby plans to create freshwater mussel design guidelines for landscape architects working on river restorations and other projects related to freshwater ecosystems like reservoirs, wetlands, and stormwater ponds.
