2020 The Katharine M. Grosscup Scholarships in Horticulture
Andy Polefrone is a master’s student in landscape architecture at The Ohio State University. In his research, he will address how the tools of landscape architecture can contribute to better understanding and protecting informal landscapes. Polefrone will travel to Medellin, Colombia, where he will work with community members in informal neighborhoods to develop methods for representing and demonstrating the agricultural, cultural, and economic importance of self-built landscapes. He hopes this research can help bolster advocacy for urban land access and celebrate often-overlooked relationships with landscape.
