St. Mary’s University Pocket Prairie Project
The Pocket Prairie Project is an 100% volunteer-run initiative to rewild campus greenspaces to the historical Texas Blackland Prairie. We focus on the cultivation of native plants for the benefits of biodiversity, water conservation, heat island reduction, and more. The project was launched in 2024 as part of the university’s commitment to sustainability. So far, we have planted over 35 species of native plants, attracting more native insects & birds.
