Florida Plant Rescue: Conservation of Matelea floridana, Sideroxylon alachuense, and Verbesina heterophylla

With its unique ecosystems and climate, Florida is home to some of the greatest plant diversity in the United States. However, many species have become extremely rare and threatened with extinction in the wild. With collaborative efforts from the Center for Plant Conservation, Daniel will be working to monitor and collect seeds from three state-listed endangered plant species including Matelea floridana, Sideroxylon alachuense, and Verbesina heterophylla. The seed collections will be safely stored at the University of Florida and National Laboratory for Genetic Resources Preservation for long-term conservation, research, and ecosystem restoration.
