Evaluating the Spatial-temporal Use of New Jersey Saltmarshes and Coastal Bays as Nursery Areas for Juvenile Sandbar Sharks (carcharhinus Plumbeus).
My research will focus on tagging sandbar sharks captured through hook and line methods in New Jersey back bays. Sandbar sharks utilize New Jersey as their northern most pupping grounds and I am aiming to map out their spatial and temporal use of these areas to aid in conservation efforts for the species and its habitat. Sharks will be tagged internally with acoustic telemetry transmitters, and an acoustic receiver array will be set up in NJ back bay systems to track the sharks movements. My data will help to map out their spatial and temporal use of the area in order to gather when and how the sharks are utilizing these key wetland areas.
