Predicting germination success of Colorado alpine plants in future climate conditions
I will be mapping locations of 13 species of native Colorado alpine plants. I will then collect seed from the plants at different locations and germinate the viable seed at predicted temperature and moisture regimes in this region of the Rocky Mountains. By comparing germination success rate to differences in environmental conditions between locations, we can determine which environmental factors help alpine plants successfully germinate. This would provide valuable knowledge on how Colorado alpine plants would fare in future climate conditions and can inform conservation efforts of native species.
