The Effects of Grazing Management on Plant-pollinator Networks and Bee Nesting Habitat
Prairies are vibrant but threatened ecosystems in the U.S., and how we manage our remaining prairies will inform the success of native prairie plants and pollinators. Emma's graduate research investigates how grazing management practices shape pollinator foraging and nesting habitat in prairies. Emma is comparing plant-pollinator network structure and ground-nesting bee abundance in sites under varied grazing management (bison, cattle, prairie dogs, and ungrazed sites) in the tallgrass (KS) and shortgrass (MT) prairie. Emma's goal is to identify grazing practices that support diverse, healthy pollinator communities in prairies.
The Garden Club of America Board of Associates Centennial Pollinator Fellowship
To provide funding to study the causes of pollinator decline, in particular bees, bats, butterflies, and moths, which could lead to potential solutions for their conservation and sustainability.
