Restoration of Native Bird Populations and Habitat in Hawaiian Forests
This project focuses on restoring native forest bird populations and habitats in Hawai'i by translocating ʻōmaʻo (Myadestes obscurus) from windward to leeward forests on Hawaiʻi Island. It aims to assess their movement, habitat use, and foraging behavior to understand their role in seed dispersal and native plant regeneration. By demonstrating how native birds can act as ecological engineers, this study will inform conservation strategies for future translocations of endangered Hawaiian avian species and contribute to climate-resilient ecosystem restoration.
