Abies Balsamea Essential Oil Effects on Dermacentor Albipictus and Implications for Alces Alces

Moose (Alces alces) are parasitized by thousands of winter ticks (Dermacentor albipictus) each year. In this project, winter ticks collected from Houghton and Baraga Counties in Michigan's Upper Peninsula will be given a treatment to test the efficacy of balsam fir essential oil, an emerging acaricide, on managing tick populations. With an emphasis on methodology, this project aims to address the wicked parasite problem that moose are facing with an environmentally friendly solution.
